ASAE Standard S278.6 For Tractor Hitches

In a couple places on our website, you may have seen that our Category 1 tractor hitches are built to the ASAE Standard S278.6. One might ask themselves, what exactly does that mean and how does it affect me? I don’t want to make you think too hard on a Monday morning, so here is a quick breakdown of the standard.
The ASAE part comes from SAE International which is a resource for the standards and expertise involved with the designing, building and maintaining of self-propelled vehicle operations on land, sea, air or space. In simpler terms, a tractor is a self-propelled land vehicle and our product is involved in the operation of this vehicle. This particular S278.6 standard is for “Three Point Hitch, Implement Quick-Attach Coupler, and Agricultural Tractors” which is where we come in. This standard sets requirements for the attachment of our three-point hitch to your tractor when quick-attaching couplers are involved. Certain dimensions are necessary to insure clearance and guarantee proper functioning of your tractor when the hitch is connected.

Don’t you sometimes wonder how small businesses get started? Or even wonder how a small business named Heavy Hitch that sells tractor hitches gets started? Well, they normally all start the same – someone had a problem, created a solution, and offered their solution to other people. That is exactly what happened with Heavy Hitch, and here is their story.
It all started about five years ago in the fine city of Fountain City, Wisconsin. Now, if you have ever had the privilege of driving around in the country, you would have noticed that a country driveway is not the same as a driveway in a city or a suburb. This is the problem that Greg Parnow, owner of Heavy Hitch, had at his home. His driveway was small, steep and less than desirable in Wisconsin winter conditions. Ready for a solution, Greg called on his father-in-law Jim Schell. Together they tried and tested many models until finally creating a three point tractor hitch that had weight handling ability and could handle a salt spreader or any other receiver attachment.
Greg assumed that others would have a need for this product also, and he was right. They listed the product on EBay and after a successful run they decided to create their own website and start selling hitches. Well you cannot have a business without a name, so how did Heavy Hitch come to be? Real simple actually, the hitches are really heavy – so now you have Heavy Hitch!
